Trust Me, It's A Good Read!
By Yolanda S. Bean
In September of 2013, I first read McKenzie's Close My Eyes, her debut thriller for adults and really enjoyed it. Though the plot wasn't entirely unpredictable, the characters and story were engaging, so I have been keeping an eye out for her books. And this one, her latest, is in some ways the opposite of her first in that the plot is much stronger than the characters. Livy Jackson is a mother of two with a marriage that is still recovering from her husband's affair six years earlier. But this is not the only grief in Livy's life - eighteen years earlier, her younger sister, Kara, was murdered. In the aftermath, Livy becomes friends with her sister's best friend and is devastated to discover her corpse, denying that her friend and godmother to her children would be capable of killing herself. But she needs to prove that murder is the only possibility to explain Julia's death.
McKenzie also interjects the killer's perspective, which allows readers more insight with which to try and guess the identity of the killer - could it be Julia's creepy twin brother? Her newest boyfriend? Or could it even be Will, Livy's own lying, cheating husband? As Livy keeps digging, more clues mount up and McKenzie manages to keep the reader guessing up until the final, climatic reveal. It's much more of an unpredictable plot than her previous book and though Julia's hand-wringing and self-pitying is trying at times, it's still an exciting read that is hard to put down. I am impressed with the false trails left that still ends up quite satisfying. It's a fast-paced and fun thriller and the killer's perspective adds to the growing tension. It's very well done and I will definitely continue to keep an eye out for her future books!

"You Can Trust Me" review
By michael a. draper
This suspenseful thriller was recommended to me by my reviewer friend, Tom McGee. Tom's literary tastes are usually on the money and with his review, he hit the nail on the head.
Livy Jackson has dealt with her sister's death for almost twenty years.
Currently, she comes to her best friend, Julia's, flat for lunch and finds her dead which is ruled a suicide.
Livy doesn't believe it but her husband isn't being supportive. He thinks she's being paranoid.
In the midst of dealing with her friend's death, Livy's husband is given an assignment in Paris. Not only must she bear her grief alone but she learns that a colleague of her husband with whom he had an affair with in the past, is accompanying him on the Paris assignment.
Livy feels an added burden of guilt because Julia had left a number of urgent messages on Livy's phone, asking Livy to call her.
In the hands of a lesser writer, the story might have been a typical melodrama but Sophie McKenzie draws Livy out so that the reader feels her pain. When she learns something new about her husband, she faces everything by herself.
The drama increases as she meets Julia's mysterious boyfriend and seems drawn to him. However, the reader isn't sure of his intentions.
The story is done with panache and McKenzie's characters come to life before our eyes.
I can't wait to read the next novel by this exciting author.
I received a free book in return for my honest review.

Eight Victims & Counting, the Dark Stranger Blends in With Friends & Family, but Nobody is Safe From the Monster's Addiction!
By Tom McGee
Sophie McKenzie's "You Can Trust Me" is a suspenseful thriller with more than enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing throughout this engaging whodunit.
Thirty-eight year old Olivia "Livy" Jackson, nee Small, is the protagonist. Set in England, during her junior year in college, her sister Kara, a freshman was brutally murdered by an unknown serial killer still at large.
As this spellbinding novel develops we learn that the clandestine killer may be one of Liv's friends, family or acquaintances. The characters and mystery are built upon that central theme when some 18 years later, Livy, her 7 year old son, Zack and her 12 year old daughter, Hannah find a the body of a dear friend dead in her apartment, the victim of an apparent Suicide.
Olivia and her lawyer husband of 15 years, Will and cannot escape Will's boss, Leo and Leo's wife, Martha Harbury's annual dinner invitation in their home. The Jackson's dread the event, knowing that long time employee and Will's former mistress, Catrina, who heads Leo's Paris office will be there as well as Leo's son, Paul and his wife, Becky, a school teacher.
During the event, Liv's best friend, Julia Dryden leaves several unanswered messages on Olivia's cell phone, an important call that Livy does not get a chance to return until after Leo announces that Leo and Will must leave early the next morning for Leo's Geneva, Switzerland office to try and save the account of their biggest client there.
For the sake of the children and the couple's marriage, Olivia has long since forgiven Will for having an affair with Catrina; however, when she leans that Catrina will be going with Leo and Will on the Geneva business trip trouble brews for the Jacksons.
Without exposing the murderer, the author pens 7 chapters interspersed cleverly throughout this 326-page roller coaster ride which she allows the Killer to set the scene that she names for the victims murdered there.
As the author constructs alternate paths for potential suspects, she keenly develops numerous characters. We learn through the eyes of the monster that the killer is not what he or she seems to be. The killer does not leave clues or witnesses. The spouses and friends would not believe this seemingly normal person capable of these heinous murders.
I thoroughly enjoyed this action packed story. It had me constantly guessing and changing my mind back and forth on the identity of the antagonist and e the next target on the mounting list of victims. In both cases the reader should not rule out anyone, even the ones they trust.
I loved this English whodunit and bet you will too.
Enjoy!
