Can't wait for the next one
By s34w33d
I seen this book on a display of new arrivals at my local library and snatched it up only to realize that it's the second book so after reading the first one, I was eager to dive into this one even more.

The whole concept of various myths made real is a genre that I love to read. And this world is no exception. What really intrigues me is that Klimo went as far as bringing in other myths as well, not just the ones about half humans. I found it quirky and humorous that she brought in some of the bestial myths along side the 'hibes' which is also a fun way to refer to hybrids. I also laughed at references from 'our time' such as Jane Eyre and even Stephenie Meyer!

The setup of different cultures is very well built in this world of Klimo which adds so much to the book. The characters are well thought out and have a believable realm in which they live. It's like booking a trip to some place overseas. I had the inclination to look up some of the hybrids referred to because I was not very familiar of them. What a great motivator to look up bits from past (and present) cultural icons.

Even with a heaviness on horses the novel is very enjoyable. I adore Malora and Orion and Neal. Zephelene gets on my nerves but hey, it's rare to adore and like all characters in a book equally. I'm especially excited to learn more about Lume; there's not enough of him in this book at least. And only a hint of reference to him in the first book.

Not a read for everyone. If you're interested in sci-fi or fantasy or bonus, even both, I highly suggest picking this one and the first one up. For now, I'm going to be frothing a the bit (forgive the horse reference) for the next book!

Strong characters and thorough world-building
By SciFiChick
Malora is now living an easy life, training as a blacksmith. And while she has gained acceptance and a new family among the Centaurs, Malora still feels like an outsider and fears she may be the last human. On her journey to find and rescue Sky, she meets a young man that she has been seeing in her dreams.

This sequel to Daughter of the Centaurs introduces readers to a wide variety of once-mythical creatures. But as we discover, instead of a fantasy world, this is a distant future where man played god and created these creatures from myth. Now humans are the endangered species. So while the story has the feel of a fantasy, technically it's science fiction.

I absolutely loved the first novel, so I had high expectations for this one. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. There is plenty of mystery, suspense, drama, humor, and even a bit of romance. With strong characters, thorough world-building, and a fresh story A Gathering of Wings is another incredibly engaging read.

By D. Neyland
The book' s length, the protagonist's age and the bloody deaths seemed to suggest that it was written for a high school audience. After too many unbelievable escapes and silly dialogue, I chose not to donate my copy to my public library. The protagonist is growing down, not up.
