Many diseases have an overlooked spiritual root, which must be identified and dealt with from a biblical perspective. Fear, stress, guilt, anger and self-hatred are examples of spiritual issues that in time will negatively impact the body.

"A More Excellent Way" discusses the biblical principles and practices for preventing and recovering from many common illnesses. Allergies, cancer, arthritis, diabetes, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and other diseases are all discussed in-depth.

This book represents the gap between believing and receiving. If you believed and didn't receive, it is not because God is deaf; it is because there might be issues in your life that are not lining up with His Word.

This book is for everybody who wants to have freedom from disease. Everyone can benefit from applying biblical principles to their lives.

Increases faith and health

A More Excellent Way has affected my life profoundly. Most of all, it has made the Bible come alive for me again, and helped me to really believe God for my healing. It is a very encouraging book. The author maintains that 80% of all illnesses have spiritual roots; if you restrict this to chronic illnesses, which allopathic medicine has little successs with, I would agree with him.

The book seems like it is a long transcription of a seminar that the author, a pastor, gives, and although it seems to ramble at times, I found everything in it useful and practical. I was greatly inspired by his digressions. He makes it clear that his very successful ministry (especially to people with MCS/EI) is in its embryonic stage, and that there is much more to learn in this area. He is very honest and straightforward.

The whole book is very Bible-based. It answers the question, "What if everything in the Bible WERE really true and for today, especially about healing?"...I know that might sound like it's a "name it and claim it" book (but it's not) or like it's a book that puts people down who get prayer but don't get instantly healed (but it's not). Instead it's a book that deals with WHY people might not be healed and practically WHAT they can do from a spiritual perspective. I do not feel condemned or put down because I have not yet been fully healed; instead I feel excited about the spiritual healing the Lord is doing and will continue to do...and so at peace about the physical manifestations and the symptoms and the pain I currently have. I look so forward to continuing to follow the healing steps of the "walk out" and to the work that the Lord is doing in my life because of this book.

The end of the book is filled with pages of testimonies (including very detailed MCS/EI testimonies) that are incredibly uplifting, even for people without this particular illness.

If you are ill, discouraged because you've received prayer but are not yet healed, need encouragement or uplifting, I strongly recommend this book. It will bless you and is well worth the money. I would suggest buying it new or in "like new" condition if you could afford it at all because it is a book you will want to refer to often and keep forever.

About the Author
Nancy Frey, Ph.D., a Professor at San Diego State University received the 2008 Early Career Achievement Award from the National Reading Conference. Dr. Frey has published in The Reading Teacher, English Journal, Remedial and Special Education, and Educational Leadership. She has co-authored more than fifty books on English Learners (Language Learners in the English Classroom), assessment (Checking for Understanding), writing (Scaffolded Writing Instruction), literacy (Reading for Information in Elementary School) and vocabulary (Learning Words Inside and Out). Dr. Frey teaches a variety of courses on reading instruction and literacy in content areas, classroom management, and supporting students with diverse learning needs. She also was a third grade classroom teacher.

Good Text for my Purposes at Work: ESOL

I needed more research on ESOL. This work on techniques and methods for ESOL students and our means to produce sustainable and meaningful talking points is sound. I already knew all of this, but when presenting trainings, this text presents the material well. No more turn and talk for ELs who are beginning! Ugh! Hate what 'all" teachers do for 'all' students 'all' the time.

When is differentiation really going to hit home? If you need a text to help you show, simply, a set of methods to deliver accountable talk to ELs and "all" students, I felt this was sound and targeted.

About the Author
Barry Hewlett is Professor of Anthropology at Washington State University, Vancouver. He received a Ph.D. from the University of California--Santa Barbara in 1987 and has had appointments at Southern Oregon University, Tulane University, and Oregon State University. He has conducted research in central Africa since 1973 and is the author of INTIMATE FATHERS: THE NATURE AND CONTEXT OF AKA PYGMY PATERNAL INFANT CARE, HUNTER-GATHERER CHILDHODS (edited with Michael Lamb), FATHER, FATHER-CHILD RELATIONS: CULTURAL AND BIOSOCIAL CONTEXTS (Edited), and "Human Behavior and Cultural Context in Disease Control," Special Issue of TROPICAL MEDICINE AND INTERNATIONAL HEALTH (edited with Joan Koss-Chioino). Current research interests include biocultural contexts of infectious and parasitic diseases; the transmission, acquisition, and evolutionary nature of culture; hunter-gatherers; and child development.

Bonnie L. Hewlett worked as a registered nurse in neonatal intensive care before obtaining her Ph.D. degree in anthropology at Washington State University, Pullman. She has conducted research in Gabon, Republic of Congo, and Central African Republic. Her research interests include medical anthropology, adolescent development, hunter-gatherers, and evolutionary cultural anthropology. Good book for Intro students

This is a great introduction into what medical anthropologists do in the field. It gives a clear and interesting look into African cultures and epidemic illnesses. I especially like this book because it is readable in the sense that it's not caught up in its own cleverness and bogged down with layers of super-academic speak.

Pretty good read about medical anthropology & Ebola in Africa

I picked up this book because I am interested in infectious diseases, and there do not seem to be many texts on Ebola other than this one. I thought the authors' descriptions of the rapid-killing Ebola epidemics that seem to be on the rise in Africa since Ebola first reared its head in 1976 were fascinating, but I wanted more in the way of scientific/medical research. However, reading about "medical anthropology" was interesting overall, as it is not my field and I knew little about it before picking up this book. Overall, this book is a solid 3-stars.

Lightning briefly illuminated the strong curve of his stubble-rough jaw, devilish smile, and raven's wing hair whipping in the wind. Damn, the man had no right to look so sexy in the middle of hell. He stripped off his black leather jacket, pushed her umbrella aside, and leaned in close.
"You bait a nice hook, sugar."

"You. You Peeping Tom!" Her search for something sophisticated and deadly to say fizzled as ridiculous.

"Careful. You're giving me ideas for a new profession."

She didn't have a chance to reply before his leather jacket descended over her head and his strong arm encircled her.

"Tell me how sorry I am later, sugar." He plucked the inverted umbrella from her, popped it back right, and held it before them as he propelled them toward the back door of the yacht club, not the least daunted by the storm's fury. But then, Nan didn't think much got past Jackson's thick wall. She gritted her teeth, irritated. Both the timing of Jackson's appearance and the man were too welcome for her peace of mind.

She tingled from the heat of his arm about her, the feel of his lean, hard body next to her, and the tangy scent of musk and leather enveloping her.

"Here we go." He hustled her into a lit hallway.

Anxious to rid herself of his scent, she slid his coat off. Cool air assaulted, making her too aware of the heat from his body behind her, touching her, like he'd said on the phone.

Can't you feel me? I'm right up against you. Feel the heat? My hands on you...my mouth.

She shivered. The creamy watered silk walls, crown molding, and plush carpet contrasted sharply with her soggy, bedraggled state and she turned to face him, feeling like a swamp rat. He'd moved closer and her chest landed smack up against his hot, very male body.

"Where are we?" Drawing back, she teetered, dropping his coat.

"Backstage of the ballroom and just where we need to be." He grinned and settled his hands on her hips. When he spoke, his deep voice rumbled right to her core and set off a series of delicious quakes. "It's been a while, sugar. A long while. You hung up too soon last week. We didnt get to the good part."

Nan tried to stop the quakes of desire from spreading by clenching her stomach muscles. It didn't help. Jackson let his shoulders rest on the door behind him and drew her between his jeans-clad, booted legs. She didn't have to look to know how his jeans fit or how his leather boots gleamed. Not a thing about his dark Irish looks and southern bad boy manners had changed.

"Yes, a long while," she whispered past the lump in her throat. A droplet of water ran down her cheek, dripped onto her breastbone, and slithered between her breasts. Jackson's gaze followed its path, heated, then lingered. Nan looked down. Her halter-top gown lay plastered to her body like skin, the wet silk clearly defining the rise of her breasts and nipples.

and show the story. After reading Wild Irish, I was eager to start the second book in the Weldon Brothers Series, Smooth Irish. The real to life connections between the characters formed a beautiful story that dealt with the pain of loss, family, and ultimately love. From this love the author painted a tale of how love can heal and soothe a wounded heart. She took a crippled soul unwilling to accept the support and love of his family reach out to him, hit him over the head with feelings he didn't want to recognize, then made damn sure his brothers were stubborn enough to give him an old fashion thrashing when nothing else worked. The intense emotions that flowed through the book pulled me in from the beginning and carried me to the finale. The author pulled together a solid plot with all the right ingredients - one handsome, sensual, and caring hero, one sexy and stubborn heroine, sexual tension and fantasy play that wrecked havoc on my nerves and a beautiful ending that every romance reader will love! Much like the first book, Smooth Irish is not an erotica read, but the heat simmers across the pages when Jackson and Nan find out just how much chemistry they share.

SETTING:

Smooth Irish took place in the sweet southern city of Savannah, Georgia where the weather is beautiful one day and fatal the next.

WRITING:

In my review of book one, Wild Irish, I mention that Ms. Saints has taken her pseudonyms and made each one unique, as if three different people were writing under each name instead of one author. I don't know how she can do it, but she does. Ms. Saint has created a wonderful series filled with her signature style for attention to detail while bringing out the more sultry side of her muse. The wit and charm each character brings to each story adds a flair that makes me want to pick up the next book immediately after finishing the last. I still love all the southern expressions sprinkled throughout both Wild Irish and Smooth Irish. Many of them will make you laugh and others will make you shake your head in understanding. And yes, southern mamas have no fear of breaking out the water hose when needed!

CHARACTERS:

Growing up, Nan Miller didn't have the strong family support she knew the Weldon family gave each other - no matter if they wanted it or not. She emitted a strength I wish I had. She was a stubborn, determined, and kind hearted southern lady that knew what she wanted. From an early age she had to work hard to climb above the hardships she suffered as a child. Much of that child hood molded the woman she grew into. I saw her as someone that needed to find a connection to love and until Jackson, only found that through her care giving as a maternity nurse. Through her actions with those under her care, her gentle nature with her love for plants and her deep understanding for Jackson's pain, I found a heroine that I just loved.

From book one I was intrigued with Jackson Weldon. Always shunning the attention of others, I imagined his a hard case to crack. But as I read Smooth Irish I found that underneath his rough and tough exterior he hid from the world a man in need of someone stubborn and strong enough to deal with the pain that haunted him and then push him past it. I found it hard to read how such a strong man could be brought to his knees, but on the flip side it was rewarding to follow his story as he pulled himself up with the help of his family and the strength of love.

LAST THOUGHTS:

I absolutely loved this book! The characters, the plot, the emotions...all of it. Smooth Irish is a wonderful addition to the Weldon Brothers Series. I recommend this book to anyone that loves to read about wounded heroes and heroines strong enough to heal their souls. I am already wanting the next installment!!

This story was good and the characters are likable. Jackson is a tortured soul and Nan is a overly practical nurse. They have a connection but Jackson's past interferes. I expected the series to be about Ireland but the only Irish connection is their roots. The story is predictable and every angst you can think of gets thrown into the plot. It's a good read but nothing spectacular.

I purchased this book after I read the first one in the series (Wild Irish). I met and was intrigued by Jackson and Nan in Wild Irish - so glad they are the focus here. I fell in love with not only the main two characters but also the whole Weldon family - the brothers interactions are just so perfect! I became invested in the characters, their history...and the love scenes are as steamy as the climate! I'm so glad they got their HEA. I cannot wait to purchase the next book in the series. All in all just a really fun read.

Off to Peru...

Wanderlust is an amazing sequel to Edgewood. Mallory, Russ, Jameson and Nadia travel to Peru under the protection of the Praetorian Guard to search for David Hofstetter who has been presumed dead for sixteen years. Although they know the search is going to be a challenge and quite possibly dangerous, they are ready to face whatever obstacles The Associates might put in their way to prevent them from succeeding. However, what will they do when they aren't so sure the Praetorian Guard truly has their best interests at heart?

Several questions from Edgewood were answered while creating more questions about what's going to happen next with these four kids dealing with much more than they should at barely sixteen years old. There was a perfect balance of supernatural and real-life emotions which allowed me to connect even more with these characters. This sequel is much more than The Associates vs. the Praetorian Guard. For the first time I got to see a little bit of Jameson's vulnerability and Mallory's manipulations. Nadia's insecurities and Russ's compassion are still evident but on a much deeper level than in Edgewood and I was incredibly pleased with the way they connected in this book.

While these four are on this mission to find David who might not even be alive, they are simultaneously deciding if they want to commit themselves to the Praetorian Guard. Some realize pretty quickly that they might not be able to say no even if they wanted to.

I devoured this book in a day. It's one of my favorite thing about Karen McQuestion's writing...you don't realize you've been reading for hours until the sun starts to set and are shocked when you look at the clock. I liked Wanderlust even more than Edgewood and I didn't know if that was even possible! I can't wait for the next book in the Edgewood series!

I was never a reader of superpower books but Karen Mc? has me hooked on this series about 4 teens, Jameson, Russ, Nadia and Mallory, who each have their own personalities and their own unique powers. The first book Edgewood let's you know what these 4 teens went through at learning how they got these superpowers and now they must learn how to correctly use them. Wanderlust Book 2 takes them on a supervised trip to Peru to see what information they can find about a man from their home town, David Hofstetter, who disappeared sixteen years ago. They don't know if he is dead or alive. They also are in for a lot of twists and turns and make the correct decisions on how to cope with everything they come across.

Wanderlust is a great title as Jameson, Russ, Nadia and Mallory have the desire to wander to Peru and explore what happened to Mr. Hofstetter. I also love the covers of both books as the pictures tell a thousand words for sure.
Karen's writing grabs a reader from the very first page to the very last sentence in her stories. I feel like I am super glued to my favorite reading chair and I devour page after page. I find myself cheering for these teens at times and holding my breath at times with some of the things they encounter. Lot's of twists and turns for sure.

I highly recommend this series. Edgewood (Edgewood Series) | Wanderlust: Book Two of the Edgewood Series and all her other books.

Book two of the Edgewood Series, Wanderlust, keeps you on edge as we find out what happens to the four teens with new found super powers. Loved this book, just as much as I did book one, maybe more. It is a fast paced book that keeps you reading to the end and wanting more. I was happy to get to read from Nadia's perspective in this book. McQuestion is an amazing character writer, she really makes you feel what her characters feel and makes them feel alive. I enjoyed the travels through Peru and the addition of the legend that drives Nadia's story in this book that was a jewel and fun for readers. I am looking forward to book three. I am not one to read many young adult books, but McQuestion's other books are so well writen I was drawn to read all her books and I am happy I did!!

Carl Rogers (1902-1987) was an influential American psychologist and (along with Abraham Maslow) among the founders of humanistic psychology.

He states in the Foreword to this 1970 book, "I have written papers and given talks on various facets of the burgeoning movement toward encounter groups... So I decided to assemble together for publication both the talks and papers I have given, together with new material written for this book, in the hope that they will stimulate a thoughtful analysis and a clarification of differences regarding this incredibly expanding trend. As with all my more recent books, this is definitely a personal document. It does not pretend to be a scholarly survey of the field, nor a profound psychological or sociological analysis of encounter groups... This book is written out of living personal experience, and those whose lives are described and whose statements are quoted are living, struggling people. I hope it will convey MY perception of one of the exciting developments of our time: the intensive group experience. And I hope it will help familiarize you with what an encounter group IS, and what it can MEAN."

About the Author
Bryan Haycock has been involved in the dietary supplement industry for 15 years. His writing has appeared in many U.S. and international publications including Men's Health, Perfect Body (Poland), and Olympians News (Italy). Bryan teaches courses on dietary supplements at the University of Utah's department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology. Bryan is also a founding member of the Global Nutrition and Health Alliance. Bryan holds a BS in psychology, an MS in exercise and sports science, and is currently finishing his PhD in exercise physiology.

Amy Allen Sunderman has a BS in exercise and sports science and a MS in nutrition, both from the University of Utah. Amy is also a registered dietitian. Amy s work has been published in three medical journals and three books covering topics in nutrition, and dietary supplements. Amy has worked within the dietary supplement industry for 15 years as a research and development scientist.
