About the Author
William Earl Maxwell is a professor emeritus at San Antonio College, where he has taught courses in U.S. and Texas government since 1971. Throughout his career Maxwell has focused on innovative teaching techniques and improving the teaching and learning environments for students. As part of that effort, in 1975 Maxwell co-authored UNDERSTANDING TEXAS POLITICS, his first text on Texas government. He also co-authored such texts as POLITICS IN TEXAS and THE CHALLENGE OF TEXAS POLITICS: TEXT WITH READINGS. He completed his undergraduate and graduate work at Sam Houston State University.

A thirty-five year veteran instructor of political science, Ernest Crain specializes in political party competition, comparative state politics, and Texas public policy. Crain co-authored UNDERSTANDING TEXAS POLITICS, POLITICS IN TEXAS, THE CHALLENGE OF TEXAS POLITICS, and four editions of INTRODUCTION TO TEXAS POLITICS. Crain received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Texas in Austin.

Mark P. Jones is the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy's Fellow in Political Science, the Joseph D. Jamail Chair in Latin American Studies, and the Chair of the Department of Political Science at Rice University. Jones is a frequent commentator on Texas politics in the state and national media, and his research on the Texas Legislature is widely cited by media outlets and political campaigns. Jones received his B.A. from Tulane University and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

M. Lynn Davis is a full professor of Government at El Paso Community College. Her specialties include political theory, communication, and process. She has written articles on political discourse and the primary/caucus debate and has edited several textbooks. She currently serves as Government Faculty Coordinator and teaches and mentors other faculty in Blackboard Software. Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Davis earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Christopher Wlezien is Hogg Professor of Government at the University of Texas at Austin. Previously a professor of political science at Temple University, Dr. Wlezien has published in several political science journals, has edited THE FUTURE OF ELECTIONS STUDIES and BRITAIN VOTES, and was founding co-editor of the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion, and Parties. His research interests include developing a "thermostatic" model of public opinion and policy and examining the interrelationships between preferences for spending and budgetary policy in various domains, and the evolution of voter preferences over the election cycle. A past president of the SWPSA, Dr. Wlezien received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

Accessible Intro To Harmony And Song Structure

This book, along with its companion by the same author, Songwriter's Workshop: Melody, comprise a solid, straightforward course in writing songs along the lines of what I'd (reluctantly) call "classic rock and pop" of the 60's through the 80's. The harmonic vocabulary covered in this volume is comparable to what most guitar-oriented songwriters

used then and continue to: open position chords with descending bass lines, major triads with thirds and fifths in the bass, etc. It may be a sign of the times at Berklee or, more

likely, just the author's orientation but you won't find jazz/show tune techniques here nor Steely Dan changes so if that's more your cup of joe, I'd recommend Jack Perricone's "Melody in Songwriting" which makes a great followup to this series.

But otherwise, there's little prior knowledge assumed (other than an interest in and listening experience to a wide range of songs) and much to be learned.

Kachulis's approach is to build up song structures by having you focus on individual elements: groove, chord color, modal chord progressions over small sections building to contrasts

over larger forms. Always refering to an example song or to the accompanying recording the approach is logical, and it should work for those requiring different levels of handholding and validation. You can imitate the examples closely or just

glean from the principles, going your own way.

And let's face it: Many of the points about song structure are just as applicable whether your composing German Lieder, folk ballads, cabaret torch songs or a neo-prog synth-drenched epic.

Useless without solutions to exercises

I bought the book for a course of self study. There are a lot of exercises in the book, which is great, and obviously critical to one's learning progress, but there are no solutions either in the book or anywhere on line. I attempted to use berklee's web site to ask the question about finding solutions, but it kept rejecting my question so I emailed "customer service". They told me they were too busy to answer and that I should use the web site to ask questions. Guess I won't be buying any more of their books or signing up for any of their courses.

Remarkable

I was surprised at how clear-eyed and honest this account of a woman working as a prostitute was. She doesn't glamourize the sex industry at all, and offers so much detail that it almost reads as a how-to guide. Completely fascinating. She's obviously an incredibly smart person, and demonstrates how anyone could fall into such work. I really enjoyed her humour and point of view.

I found this to be an incredibly revealing and honest account of being a sex worker in modern day Australia. It was like a cross between Secret Diary of a Call Girl and The Wire. Highly recommended for an eye-opening read.

A fascinating read!

Smart, poignant, well written, and humorous yet self-deprecating-I enjoyed every page. Annika pulled back the mysterious red curtain and invited her readers into the strange (no different) world of sex professionals. This wonderful book tells it like it is and does not glamorize the work, but gives a glimpse of how and why the girls may be there. In fact, it presents the trials and tribulations in a realistic and down to earth manner.

An honest revelation of a sex worker that really makes you think.
Perhaps the best part is the final outcome of the long arduous journey Annika undertakes from her early youth to adulthood and motherhood.

No worries-no spoiler alerts needed-just read the book and enjoy a fascinating read!

On a bright day in 1979 Sara, a 34-year-old mother of two young daughters, discovers she has cancer. Although shocked and frightened, she realizes the physician himself is struggling with telling her the gravity of her condition, and pleads with him in tears always to tell her truth. The truth is harsh – further examinations show this is non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that has metastasized to the liver and stomach lymph nodes. The physician suggests chemotherapy, the standard treatment, but no longer discusses recovery odds. In the book Sara describes, in simple, touching language, how her world fell apart, how she began chemotherapy but refused to continue it, and how in despair she found a natural path called the Kingston Clinic, which she followed even though she dared not believe it would help. Years later she finds out that conventional medicine could not have helped her condition, and receives affirmation to her feeling at the time, that the therapy itself would have killed her before the disease could. She describes, step by step, her incredible recovery from terminal illness, and leads the reader to understand what she had understood then – that there is another way to regard life and health. A year after the recovery process, Sara decides to become pregnant, as she and her husband had planned before she became ill. She knows there is a risk the pregnancy might provoke the cancer, but feels a deep sense of health and a need to realize it. Pregnancy is pleasant and easy, and towards her labor she persuades a midwife to deliver her at home. The poignant description of her third child's natural birth and her happy laughter on seeing her son are the climax of coming back to life and creating a new life. It all turns out for the best, however, for as soon as Sara has more time she decides to write this book: in it, she wants to provide information to enable people follow it and help themselves. Her effort was certainly crowned with success, and 25,000 copies have so far sold in small Israel, each copy passing among many hands. Today Sara is considered an authority on natural health in Israel, and the method she teaches is considered extraordinary within this area. The method is set out in detail in the book. It is unique, as it is more balanced than other natural methods, and uses cheese and eggs, which are available and easier to digest than vegetable protein. The method makes much of the biological clock and the right times for sleeping, for activities and for various foods, and regards the matter of introducing superfluous liquids into the body. It explains the reasons for infectious and chronic diseases and refers to the mutual effect of body and mind on health. The book also tells the stories of people who recovered, with Sara's assistance, from various illnesses and health problems. Sara does not claim that recovery is possible from any illness or at any situation, and deliberately includes cases of people who died – yet achieved a better quality of life and did not suffer. She emphasizes that the method is best used to prevent illness and slow down the ageing process, rather than as a fire extinguisher, although it is very useful even in difficult cases. Sara Hamo, 61 today, is slim, strong and agile – a living example of the method's effectiveness. She provides personal consultations to people with health problems, and gives courses teaching the method. Sara knows that natural health is not a tradable merchandise, and that people will often prefer chemical or natural medications and food additives to changing their life style – but she will not give up. She believes that, eventually, more people will realize this is the truly good and effective path to a life of quality. The fact that her book has been selling in Israel for the past 16 years, with sales rising annually, is proof that her belief in common sense is not unfounded.

This book helped me a lot in dealing with everyday health issues and more drastic ones, too.
It presents a clear, intelligent approach to self healing, using ones own body's resources.
It helps us credit our own body for it's self healing abilities we didn't even suspect existed.
Helped some of my acquaintances and relatives too. Highly recommended.

A Compelling story that suggests a way to heal from malignant disease with a simple logical diet.

At first, I was intrigued with the personal story of the author. The way she handled the difficult treatment of cancer and the insights she had were inspiring.
The second half of the book the author suggests a simple to implement diet that removes from our plate artificial and damaging elements, and brings on all that is healthy and good. Surprisingly, this diet is very easy to understand and implement. I found that using it eliminated the headaches I used to suffer from, and gave me a lot of energy.
Healing from malignant diseases is not an easy path, but it seems this book suggests some hope for those who suffer.

Full of Wrath

By far the best book in the series so far. It started out very slow, especially after the surprising ending in Wasserman's 3rd book in the series, Pride. Of course it was not slow for long with ongoing scenes building up to a very surprising ending. The book deals with more issues than the other three. I love the realationship status between everyone. Kaia and her bizzare realationships with Powell and Reed. Harper, Beth, and Adams, weird connections. And Miranda and her on-going crush on Kane. In this book Harper is very much alone after Adam and beth found out what happened. With her only friends being Kane and Kaia. Kaia deals with her realationships with Reed the scruffball and Powell the French teacher. Miranda and Beth team up for this book to get their wrath out on (mainly) Harper and the rest of the gang who screwed them over.There is also a weird and unexpecting realationship betwen Kane and one of the girls(Very Surprising!)! Adam is just laying around after realizing his life has amounted to nothing but being alone.
I love how Wasserman keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, turning page after page to see what will happen next. Normally it is very hard to read about seven main characters and keep everybody straight, but Wasserman does a great job (again!) with connecting everyone and keeping everyone unique!
I love this book and I encourage everyone to buy this book and the rest of the series. These are some of my favorite books!
With such a twist at the end I cannot wait for the rest of the series!

I love these books. I can't believe there aren't more reviews for them. They are definite guilty pleasures, and I wasn't expecting to like them this much. They're miles ahead of Gossip Girl or any of those types of books, in terms of writing and character development. Also, each book is as good, if not better, than the last. I'm not saying they're great lit or anything, but they are very entertaining. And I really enjoy the relationships between the characters. After the ending of Wrath (not what I was expecting at all), I'm pretty much dying for the next installment.

Great Book With A Surprising Ending

I just finished reading the fourth book in the Seven Deadly Sins Series " Wrath" and I just loved it, it keeps you guessing and I really loved the potential of Reed/Kaia and what happens to Kaia and Mr.Powell too, the evil jerk that he is. Someone dies but we won't find out till the next book. I still can't stand Beth and Miranda the most useless characters in the series. Still love Harper and Kaia and KAne and Reed.

From 1980 to 2013 Bob Yandian has been pastor of Grace Church, with a vibrant and strong congregation in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I must admit, this book is DEEP. The first time I read Hamlet's Mill, I was confused, but my interest was sparked. The second time, I sat in awe as I mentally organized the content. The third time, I got it. This book is not for the casual reader, but for one that is ready for a shift in his way of thinking about astronomy, history and mythology. Hamlet's Mill focuses on the symbolism of Old World mythology and the transmission of knowledge through archaic language. Refering to mythologies from Sumer, Egypt, China, Japan, Iceland and MesoAmerica, it is an indespenseable addition to anyones library interested in the transmission of knowledge through symbolism. Although not organized in a very systematic way, it is by far the most comprehensive book so far written on such subjects. Main themes include the Precession of the Equinoxes, gods as constellations, World Tree as Earth's axis, Deluge as the shifting of the visible sky and much, much more. The info along with the fairly new science of Archeoastronomy should, and one day will, bring about a paradigm in thought about the notions of early civilizations and their knowledge of the heavens in realation to man on Earth.

The Reader will find that this book is quoted in the bibliography of many if not all recent books concerning the origins of human civilisation and the extent of knowledge possesed by our ancestors, that it has almost become a bible to modern researchers in this field. However, upon reading, it is not hard to see why this should be.
The authors show compelling evidence that myth was a way of handing down complex information in easy to manage packages within stories, and that modern man has lost all understanding of the true nature of the myth. They also boldly state that the majority of this information pertains primarily to the mechanics of celestial movements and the precessional cycle.
However, it can be at times a very heavy text and can indeed be hard to understand upon first reading, but perseverence is most rewarding. At times the text is interupted by periodic quotes of German, Latin or French which, if one does not know the language can cause the reader to feel that he/she has missed some major point of the argument. Having been published in 1969, this book is beginning to feel its age especially with the help of modern authors explaining many of its main arguments in a much more simple and effective way.
It is an excellent book, and one that you may go back upon in future to study again and again. However, it is not advised for the casual reader, and most definately not for any one with a less than passing interest in myth.

Amazing treatment of mythology as coded archaic astronomy.

I found this book to be an amazing analysis of world mythological systems. The authors are two historians of science that make a convincing argument (in my opinion) that
myths and mythical stories are, in fact, how archaic astronomy had been past from generation to generation. They
reinterperet catastrophic mythical events as reference to the precession of the equinoxes. Mythical personage (Gods, Titans, Dragons, Heroes etc.) from China to Ancient Egypt to Greece to Meso-America are shown to be, in fact, referencing constellations and their positions as these changed due to the precession of Earth's axis over centuries.

Moreover, the authors discuss myths from linguistically, culturally, temporally distinct societies and show the astonishing commonality of names, events, and motifs.
They make a cogent argument that the knowledge base of archaic people was far deeper and wider; that the archaic people have had empirical knowledge of the precession of equinoxes-a knowledge that requires at least a couple of hundred years of continuous observation to arrive at-and that they encoded their knowledge in the language of myths. This was knowledge for the elect and unlike our contemporary sciences it was not for everyone.

In addition, the authors claim that these myths are tatters of an archaic World-View that placed man in an orderely universe of change. A world view whose echoes may still be heard in the Illiad & Odyssey, Shahnameh,Timeaus, Mahabaharata, and Nihon-gi.

It is remarkable that this book, first published in 1968, has not made any waves in those circles that value such
understanding. It is also remarkable that how much more convincing the author's arguments have become in the light of the discovires chronicled by E. C. Krupp in his marvelous
volume "Echoes of the Ancient Skies".

I shall never again look at the myths in the way I used to
look at before reading this book, i.e. as just-so stories.
