Michael Tetteh was born in the Volta Region of Ghana. His soccer career began early in life, playing for the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana before moving to California. Michael’s professional career began when he signed a generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer and was drafted by the Seattle Sounders, where he played for two years.

Michael founded One Kingdom Foundation, a nonprofit organization that seeks to be a catalyst for a new generation of African leaders with honorable character. Michael’s vision with One Kingdom Foundation is to build a leadership school in his village where low-income kids can discover their gifts and leadership abilities, and make a difference in their world.

Michael became a certified John C. Maxwell leadership coach and speaker who leads businesses and individuals to set smart goals and overcome tremendous odds. Michael’s unique approach to leadership combines body, mind, and spirit to create harmony in the workplace.

Cheryl Tatano Beck is Distinguished Professor at the School of Nursing, University of Connecticut, USA.

Jeanne Watson Driscoll is a board certified clinical nurse specialist in adult psychiatric-mental health nursing. She maintains a private psychotherapy practice specializing in the care of women experiencing mood and anxiety disorders during their reproductive years in Boston Massachusetts, USA.

Sue Watson is co-founder of Trauma and Birth Stress (TABS), an organization dedicated to raising the profile of traumatic birth and the devastation it causes. She currently works as a childbirth educator in Auckland, New Zealand.

Very informative!

I have read all of Cheryl Tatano Beck's journal articles and studies she's written, that I've come across. Her work on traumatic childbirth is very informative. I read through this book as soon as I found it and it is very well written, informative, and a valuable resource. Couldn't recommend it more!

This is an excellent book. The case studies are engaging. The authors cover the various areas of traumatic birth and offer helpful suggestions for healing. The book is clinical in nature but would be helpful to any mother trying to heal from a traumatic birth.

Good book, but too expensive

A good book about the new AF100/101/102 etc range of large sensor cameras from Panasonic. The camera comes with a manual from Panasonic (volume 1), as well as an online-only/electronic (volume 2), but they only deal with the basic technical aspects of how to operate the camera. Barry's book deals with how to get the best results from the camera.

No issues with details, or range of topics covered. Topics include lighting and exposure, shutter speeds, colour balancing, etc as well as issues such as the rolling shutter effect. Chapters are well-written and easy to read. Barry includes many references to standard cinematographic techniques and provides a rounded approach to the subject.

Only issue is the price. At $99 total (incl shipping), it's too expensive. Unfortunately it's also the only book of it's kind at the moment, so it's rather essential.

The definitive guide on the AF100

This book is an essential accessory to the AF100. It covers not only the generic aspects of videography but superb instruction and guidance on the structure, effect and correlation between the many components that go to make up the scene files.

An understanding of these aspects is essential to allow full exploitation of this great camera, which is all sadly lacking in the sparse Panasonic half leaflet-half CD instructions. There is no possibility of a full understanding of this camera without this book

Barry Green is an easy read and covers all topics in a clear and succinct style. Even the most experienced shooters will be the better for reading it.

This is a wonderful book. It is well written and very informative, providing an interesting perspective on the subject. There are many illustrations, often large and in color. A number of reviewers have commented that some of the paintings the author discusses are not in the text. This is in fact true but I was able to find all of them on the internet without any dificulty

Five stars for the text, two at most for the illustrations

I have always been fascinated by self-portraits, and so was delighted by the appearance of this book. Laura Cumming is a minute observer: her descriptions of the paintings have alerted me to many details of paintings of which I had previously been unaware. How many viewers of Van Eyck's Van der Paele Madonna, for example, would have noticed the portrait of (presumably) the artist in the tiny reflection on the armour of the attendant St George? The book has a detail of this passage in the painting, but the matt illustration is so muddy that it is completely useless and I had to go to Google Images to find a more readable version of it.

The illustrations are the weak part of the book, and some are really poor, for you cannot see many of the details to which the author refers: the glove which Sofonisba Anguissola is carrying or the important key tucked into the belt of Velasquez in Las Meninas; nor can you make out the cat and the dog at the bottom of Gumpp's self-portrait. In the reproduction of Carracci's, you can just about make out the dog, but not `the spectral cat'. The illustration of Kahlo's `The Wounded Deer' is cropped so that the word `Carma', referred to in the text, is lost. Also, increasingly so as the book proceeds, Cumming discusses a number of self-portraits by lesser-known artists, which are not illustrated at all (and are not available on Google Images either); and there are some paintings which she describes without giving their titles, so those cannot be looked up on Google anyway. That's all more than a little frustrating.

But the text is immensely rewarding. We learn such fascinating details as that the flowers in the mirror of Seurat's `La Poudreuse' were painted over what was originally a self-portrait, and Cumming's reflections on this are charming. Many fine essays have been written on Rembrandt's self-portraits, and, unavoidable as it is in a such a book, it cannot have been easy to produce another one; but she rises creditably to that challenge also. About the other great serial self-portraitist, Van Gogh, she argues eloquently that the pity they evoke is purely ours, and that there is no self-pity in the pictures themselves or in Van Gogh's mind.

There are fine passages about how artists have portrayed their hands, and about the transition from the painters' busy workshops to their cell-like studios, as part of the story of Romanticism. Cumming's analysis of Philip Guston's `Studio' is a real tour de force; and there is a lovely analysis of a triple self-portrait by Norman Rockwell. The penultimate chapter, entitled `Falling Apart', shows how photography especially (but inspiring the work of painters also) can show the multiple aspects and/or masquerades of an artist's Self, or indeed convey the sheer elusiveness of what we mean by the Self: a very post-modern theme.

These are just a few of the many felicitous passages in Cumming's text. You may not in every case agree with her reactions and interpretations, but they are always worth thinking about; and what is irrefutable is the acuity of her perceptions, the range of her knowledge, the philosophical dimension of her thoughts, and her intense engagement with her subject.

Who Was Frederick Douglass?

Frederick Douglass was born a slave. Just like a horse or a plow, he was the property of a white man. From a young age, Frederick wondered why that was so. Wasn’t he as smart, strong, and deserving of liberty as anyone else?

At the time Frederick was born, in 1818, there were 1.5 million black slaves in the southern United States. Most didn’t learn to read. This was against the law! But Frederick taught himself to read and write.

Most slaves didn’t risk their lives to run away to freedom. This was against the law, too. But Frederick escaped and helped others do the same.

Great Book.

This book was very informative. Though I have some knowledge of Frederick Douglass life, the book gave even more prespective. I found facts not previous known by me nor mentioned in other books I have read. I read this book to my children and they did not want me to stop. I think they walked away with some valuable information as well about Mr. Douglass as well as a few life lesson. I definitely recommend this book for all to read.

My ten year olds enjoyed this book that introduced them to the life of s great American. The writing is a little stilted, but it still held their interest. I didn't find any glaring errors of fact or eccentricities of interpretation.

No bettrer introduction to the times and life of Frederick Douglass

If you've heard of Frederick Douglass but never known much about him, this is the book for you!
Artfully illustrated and 105 pages of double-space print, it offers a good overview of the evils of
slavery, Douglass' early life as a slave, and his later life as an outspoken abolitionist. One of it
particularly nifty features is its six, page-size backgrounders titled "Slavery In America",
"William Lloyd Garrison", "A Mighty Team: Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton",
"Harriet Tubman, The Black Moses", "Reconstruction" and "The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and
The Voting Rights Act of 1965". Given its compactness, artful illustrations and easy-to-read
font style, Who Was Frederick Douglass? is especially suited for young readers.

Modular origami is the latest craze in paper folding!

Author Byriah Loper has been creating modular origami sculptures for just five years, but in that time, he's pushed the upper limits of the art form with some of the largest, most complex geometric paper constructions ever assembled. While many geo-modular origami artists focus on creating dense floral spheres, Byriah has pioneered the open, linear "wire frame" approach, which results in a very complex-looking model that reveals the interior of its form. He exhibits his sculptures annually at the Origami USA convention in New York, and was recently a featured artist at the "Surface to Structure" exhibition at the Cooper Union gallery in the East Village.

About the Author
Byriah Loper has folded origami for five years. His interest in origami art began with the discovery of a paper airplane calendar, which inspired him to model more complicated objects out of paper. Loper quickly discovered modular origami, and has since designed and folded more than 250 original works. Byriah is a student at Asbury University in Kentucky.
